The incident took place on 16 June last year on a train from Southend to London, where Aliev followed the girl, blocked her in, and subjected her to a prolonged sexual assault before she managed to escape at London Fenchurch Street. British Transport Police arrested Aliev 11 days later in Peckham after he was identified by plain-clothes officers, subsequently searching his home and seizing clothing relevant to the assault. In April, Aliev was found guilty of attempted rape, two counts of assault by penetration, and three counts of sexual assault following a thorough investigation. Sentenced at Inner London Crown Court, he received a 12-year jail term with an additional two years on licence and will be a registered sex offender for life, with British Transport Police commending the victim's courage.
