Africa’s integration challenge: Why economic unity is key to solving migration and development crises

Despite decades of commitments to continental unity, Africa remains far from achieving meaningful economic and political integration. This opinion piece argues that the failure to strengthen regional economies and implement effective integration policies has fuelled migration pressures, economic inequality and anti-immigrant sentiment across the continent. It contends that Africa must move beyond market-driven integration models and embrace developmental regionalism, stronger regional institutions and deeper political unity to unlock sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
