Hidden beneath Antarctic snow at a constant temperature of -52°C, the archive contains ancient ice that holds information about past temperatures, atmospheric conditions, volcanic eruptions and greenhouse gas levels. Researchers believe the preserved samples will help future generations study Earth's climate history using technologies that may not yet exist today.
