It responds to engineering, operational discipline, competent technicians, and systems that perform reliably around the clock.That is why Jamaica’s island-wide blackout of June 5 should not be dismissed as a temporary inconvenience. It was a diagnostic event that exposed important truths about the present condition of the electricity system and cast a harsh light on renewed enthusiasm for introducing nuclear power, particularly Small Modular Reactors, into Jamaica’s energy mix.
