Nine people are in a critical condition after a collision between two passenger trains in central England.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a collision between two trains north of London on Friday afternoon that killed one person.

Two East Midlands trains have crashed into each other causing serious injuries. The incident occurred around Kempston between Luton and Bedford, at about 5.15pm.

The collision occurred in the Bedford area, according to British Transport Police.

Both trains were traveling south to London St. Pancras station when they collided outside the town of Bedford around 5:15 p.m., according to information on rail tracking websites.
