The 58-year-old comedian, best known for his Comedy Central series “Mind of Mencia,” faces six felony counts of failure to file personal income tax with the intent to evade taxes.

Prosecutors say the case is the first filed by the office's newly created Business Tax Fraud Unit.

Carlos Mencia is accused of failing to report $8.7 million in income over a six-year period.

Los Angeles prosecutors brought the charges as part of a broader push to pursue tax-related financial crimes.
