‘Close One Eye’: Councillor arrested after allegedly offering SIU investigator R70 000 bribe

A Thulamela Local Municipality councillor has been arrested on corruption charges after allegedly attempting to bribe a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) investigator with R70,000 to interfere with an ongoing corruption investigation into Mahikeng Local Municipality tenders. The arrest followed a joint operation involving the SIU, SAPS and the Hawks. The councillor appeared in court and is expected to apply for bail later this month.
