This decision follows reports of Cain's alleged history of offensive and misogynistic social media posts, made between 2011 and 2015, which have since been deleted. The resurfaced tweets reportedly included derogatory terms for women, such as “slag” and “slut”, and alleged threats of sexual violence. The BBC said that the posts were “completely unacceptable” and that their vetting process, undertaken by the production company, “clearly failed”, prompting an investigation.
