Following consultation with officials, play was initially paused for 15 minutes, with players held on the course, before a further 15-minute delay was called. Masters champion Rory McIlroy and world number one Scottie Scheffler had early tee times, while later starters, including Aaron Rai and Justin Rose, faced predictions of wind gusts up to 36mph. Organisers had already taken preventative measures, such as slowing the pace of putting surfaces and planning to syringe greens, as half of the initial 12 players were already over par with no birdies recorded before the suspension.
