A staggering £160,000 has been reported stolen this year due to these specific scams. Fraudsters typically pose as a child through messages or AI-generated phone calls, urgently requesting money or a payment. Santander's “scamtracker” revealed that men lost £100,000 daily to various authorised push payment scams, including investment and purchase fraud, during the first six months of the year.
