A study by IR Sant Pau and CIBERCV identifies for the first time the role of the LRP5 protein in platelet activation and arterial thrombus formation. The researchers showed that blocking LRP5 significantly reduces thrombosis in preclinical models, with a lower bleeding impact than that observed with classic antiplatelet agents. The work, published in European Heart Journal and accompanied by an editorial in the journal, opens up a new line of research to develop more selective and safer antithrombotic therapies.
