India restores 21.76 million hectares of deforested land, nears 84 per cent of Bonn Challenge target

India has made significant strides in land restoration. Between 2011 and 2020, over 21 million hectares of degraded land were restored, as reported by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This achievement brings India close to its 2030 target under the Bonn Challenge. Telangana leads the states in restoration efforts. These activities have also generated substantial employment opportunities.
