A medical expert has warned that energy drinks are not recommended for anyone under the age of 18 following the death of a 13-year-old KwaMashu pupil who reportedly collapsed after consuming an energy drink. Dr Nkosinathi Shabalala says the high levels of caffeine and sugar found in many energy drinks can pose serious health risks to children, including heart complications, high blood pressure, sleep disorders and obesity.
