An Alaska official said Dan J. Sullivan intended to "confuse or mislead and to thereby compromise the ballot’s fairness or neutrality."

Republicans had accused Democrats of attempting to confuse voters by boosting a candidate with the same name as the incumbent Republican senator.

An elections official Monday disqualified a Republican candidate who shares the same name as GOP Sen. Dan Sullivan. The ineligible candidate can appeal the official’s ruling.
