Infant deaths dropped to about 19,350 last year

The nation’s infant mortality dropped to a new all-time low in 2025. The U.S. national infant mortality rate dropped to below 5.4 infant deaths per 1,000 live births in 2025.

According to the CDC, there were just under 5.4 infant deaths per 1,000 live births last year

The rates are still higher than some other countries, though.
