This marks the first time the fried version has been widely available in over three decades, having been replaced by a baked pie in 1992 due to health concerns. Other fast-food chains, including Burger King, Sonic, and Hardee's, are also offering patriotic-themed items for the semiquincentennial. McDonald’s is frying up some apple pies to honor America’s 250th birthday

The fast food company says it uses over 170 million American-grown apples every year in the U.S., and that's before the return of the fried apple pie.
