CAIRO (AP) — Drone strikes killed more than 1,000 civilians in war-torn Sudan in the first five months of 2026, a senior United Nations official said Monday.

The United Nations condemns an increase in drone attacks in Sudan, where four years of war has created the world's largest displacement and hunger crises.

The war has killed at least 59,000 people over three years and created the world's largest humanitarian crisis, affecting 34 million people.

Reports show drone use expanding, with more than 1,000 civilians killed in first five months of 2026.
