A small political party, the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, has unexpectedly entered national politics. This happened after twenty Lok Sabha MPs from the Trinamool Congress announced their merger with the NCPI. The NCPI had previously fielded candidates in the Tripura assembly elections with minimal success. The rebel MPs stated their intention to support the NDA.
