She is recognised for her extensive services to drama and to charity, describing the honour as her "best 50th birthday present" ahead of her 50th birthday on 13 July. Riley, best known for her role as Mandy Dingle, stated she is the first Emmerdale cast member to have been awarded an MBE. Her dedication to charity work is deeply personal, stemming from the loss of her mother to pancreatic cancer, leading her to support organisations such as Breast Cancer Now and Maggie’s Yorkshire.
