Bridlington in Yorkshire and St Helens in Merseyside recorded the highest annual increases, with asking prices for first-time buyer properties jumping by 18 per cent. The research, which excluded London, defined first-time buyer homes as properties with a maximum of two bedrooms, encompassing both houses and flats. The average asking price for a typical first-time buyer home across the study is £228,048, with St Albans in Hertfordshire being the most expensive at £401,352 and Middlesbrough the least expensive at £90,929.
