An additional £8 million pilot programme will explore AI's role in providing faster care for critical conditions like heart failure, strokes and lung cancer across 13 NHS organisations. AI has already provided faster lung cancer diagnoses or all-clears for over four million patients, with data showing it helps radiologists analyse complex scans in four days, down from eight. Health and Social Care Secretary James Murray stated that these AI tools are reducing waiting times and getting patients life-saving treatment more quickly. Charities including the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and Cancer Research UK welcomed the investment, highlighting the benefits of faster diagnosis in reducing patient anxiety and improving outcomes.
