A search is underway for a girl who was swept away in the ocean in Southern California, officials said.

A “mother and her two children” struggled in the water before witnesses jumped in and rescued two of the three, according to Laguna Beach Marine Safety.

Two people managed to rescue the mother and son, who are now in stable condition

“This is one of the most heartbreaking incidents I have witnessed during my time serving this community,” Laguna Beach Mayor Mark Orgill said in a statement

The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted that the girl had been struck by a wave Tuesday evening. Her mother and sibling made it to safety with help from bystanders.
