The attack, which resulted in 15 fatalities at a Hanukkah celebration, was reportedly inspired by ISIS. Akram was initially charged with 59 offences, including 15 counts of murder, 40 counts of wounding with intent to murder, and a terror offence. The newly filed charges include 10 counts of shooting with intent to murder and six counts of discharging a firearm with intent to resist arrest. Akram, 24, has not yet entered a plea, and his father, Sajid Akram, who authorities also accused of carrying out the shooting, was shot dead by police at the scene. Akram's defence lawyer Leonie Gittani told a Sydney court on Wednesday that paperwork for 19 additional charges had been filed.

Naveed Akram was already facing 59 charges after the shooting at a Jewish festival at Bondi Beach last December.
