Dedic had subjected a woman to a series of rapes and sexual assaults at knifepoint in his west London home, after consuming alcohol and cocaine. His release occurred after a court official mistakenly informed the prison that he had been granted bail, allowing him to use his Bosnian passport to leave the country on the Eurostar. Despite numerous excuses from Dedic, including claims of a heart attack and a skiing accident, his trial proceeded in his absence at Isleworth Crown Court. A jury convicted Dedic on all nine counts, and UK authorities are expected to initiate extradition proceedings to bring him back for sentencing.
