Why dance remains a powerful act of resistance in South Africa

Marking International Dance Day, this commentary argues that dance in South Africa is far more than artistic expression. Against a backdrop of inequality, gender-based violence, racism and exclusion, dance becomes a form of resistance, healing and political agency, challenging who is seen, valued and allowed to occupy space in society.
