Union Minister Nitin Gadkari attends the final breakthrough ceremony of the Zojila Tunnel.The 13.153-km tunnel is aimed at providing all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh.The ceremony marks the excavation breakthrough on the Minamarg side in Ladakh’s Drass district. The tunnel project is located between Baltal near Sonmarg in Jammu and Kashmir and Minamarg in Ladakh, across one of India’s most difficult Himalayan corridors.Once completed, the project is expected to improve 365-day access to Drass, Kargil, Leh and surrounding areas. It is also expected to support civilian movement, logistics, tourism, essential services and strategic mobility in the frontier region.
