A luxury island project linked to US President Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, has ignited one of the biggest political and environmental controversies in Albania. The massive development proposal includes luxury hotels, private villas, and a yacht marina on Sazan Island, a former Cold War military base in the Adriatic Sea. Tens of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Tirana and coastal towns, chanting 'Albania is not for sale' as concerns grow over environmental damage, political influence, and the future of protected coastal habitats.

“We were on a friend’s boat, and we stopped for a swim. Effectively, that’s how we found it,” Ivanka Trump said. "We were just captivated.”

Albanians marched in the capital Tirana for a third day straight to protest against a Jared Kushner-backed luxury resort in a national marine park.
