Measures aim to support viability of two-state solution

Paris says it has barred Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, settler leaders and violent settlers, while London targets networks it says finance and enable attacks on Palestinians

Six countries, including the UK and Canada, imposed joint sanctions on West Bank settlers and entities over violence, calling the actions a threat to a two-state solution.

Canada says the sanctions are aimed at maintaining the prospect of a two-state solution, which the current Israeli government has rejected.

France has barred Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, together with four leaders of settler organisations, and 21 violent settlers, from entering the country.

The Western nations also say they will take further measures if Israel fails to address the situation on the ground.

The rebuke came after several governments announced sanctions on individuals and organizations linked to settler violence in the West Bank.
