Created by royal embroiderer Hawthorne & Heaney for high street bakery Greggs, the eight-metre-long artwork features six illustrated chapters chronicling the history and cultural impact of the sausage roll. The embroidery depicts key moments in Greggs' nearly century-long history, from founder John Gregg's early rounds in Newcastle to the introduction of the vegan roll and the snack's current widespread popularity. The "Ta-Pastry" serves as a playful, contemporary homage to the historic Bayeux Tapestry, which is due to return to the UK later this year. The unique artwork is on free public display at the Design Museum on 5 and 6 June, offering visitors a chance to explore the legacy of a snack that Greggs sells one million of daily. In fullRoyal embroiderer creates giant Greggs sausage roll ‘Ta-Pastry’ for London exhibitionThank you for registeringPlease refresh the page or navigate to another page on the site to be automatically logged inPlease refresh your browser to be logged in
