5th-gen fighter jet: India invites proposals, 3 private bidders shortlisted for ₹15,000 cr project

India has invited proposals from three shortlisted private bidders to develop its first indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), marking a major step in its defence manufacturing push. The government will fully fund the ₹15,000 crore prototype programme, where selected consortia will work with the DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Agency to build five flying prototypes and one structural test aircraft at a facility in Andhra Pradesh.
