Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) figures show that 117 licence-holders have amassed more than 20 points specifically for speeding offences, with one individual having 45 points. Drivers can avoid a ban under the 'totting up' process if they successfully argue 'exceptional hardship' in court, which could relate to their employment or family care responsibilities. The RAC is advocating for the Government to empower courts to mandate the installation of 'intervening intelligent speed assistance (IISA)' devices in vehicles of repeat and excessive speeders.
