New figures from DR Congo reveal 344 Ebola cases and 60 deaths to date

Congo and Uganda face a severe Ebola outbreak with 263 confirmed cases and 43 deaths, prompting urgent health responses.

Health authorities have confirmed more than 260 cases of the virus in the two countries and are investigating another 1,100 possible infections.

The disease has killed 42 people in Congo and one person in neighboring Uganda.

The outbreak remains focused in Congo's eastern Ituri province. Congo has reported over 1,000 suspected cases with the Bundibugyo virus, which has no approved treatment or vaccine.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday said there are 116 suspected cases of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola and 321 confirmed cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
