DHAKA: Bangladesh foreign minister Khalilur Rahman has been elected president of United Nations General Assembly for the 81st session, defeating candidate of Cyprus Andreas Kakouris. Bangladesh last held the position in 1986-87.

United Nations, Bangladesh and Cyprus will face off this week in a closely-watched election for the President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
