The remains of one of medieval Europe's most influential queens have been examined for the first time in nearly 700 years after archaeologists opened her tomb at the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes in Barcelona. Queen Elisenda of Montcada, a powerful royal figure who helped shape medieval Catalonia, was buried in an elaborate monument following her death in 1364.
