Attempted murder probe launched after officer struck by stolen police car

Man (27) arrested after PSNI officer hit by stolen police vehicle

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Downpatrick after driving a stolen PSNI vehicle directly at an officer who had discharged one round; the officer is hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. PSNI's serious crime branch launched a full investigation and referred the incident to the Police Ombudsman, as required whenever a police firearm is drawn.
