Hiker survives bear attack in US national park weeks after fatal ‘encounter’

Devin Dufrene, 21, who witnessed the aftermath, used a satellite device to report the incident and later encountered another bear on the trail, prompting his group to climb a cliff for safety. Park rangers were observed heading to the attack site with an empty stretcher, and a section of the North Shore Trail was subsequently closed following the incident. This incident marks the second bear attack in Glacier National Park this month, following the discovery of Anthony Pollio, a Florida man, who was found dead on May 6 with injuries consistent with a “bear encounter” after going missing on May 3. Separately, a video was recently uploaded by hikers showing their encounter with two young grizzly bears in the park, during which they deployed bear spray to deter the animals.
