Fresh tensions have continued to trail the emergence of a former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the Gombe Central Senatorial District. This is amid divisions within the party deepening over both the process that produced Ahmed and renewed scrutiny of his past career in the Nigeria Police Force. Ahmed is expected to contest the senate seat currently occupied by Senator Danjuma Goje, a former governor of Gombe State, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
