Israel's air force struck a southern suburb of Beirut on Thursday afternoon, its military said, amid a broader escalation in southern Lebanon where Israeli troops have crossed the Litani River over the past days and warned residents to leave much of the area.

An Israeli airstrike on a village in eastern Lebanon killed 12 people, state media said Tuesday, as Israeli official said the military had called up more troops to Lebanon.

The escalation comes as Lebanon and Israel prepare for talks between military delegations in the US.

More than a dozen explosions rocked Beirut, witnesses said, in the most intensive strikes on the southern suburbs since a war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2024.
