Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has defeated longtime Senator John Cornyn in one of the most explosive Republican primary battles in recent US political history. Backed by US President Donald Trump and fueled by the Maga movement, Paxton stormed to victory with a massive double-digit lead, ending Cornyn’s decades-long dominance in Texas politics.

Paxton faces Democrat James Talarico in the general election.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has defeated four-term Sen. John Cornyn in a massively expensive, drawn-out U.S. Senate primary race.

Cornyn led the March primary with 42% of the vote, narrowly ahead of Paxton’s 40.5%, sending both to a runoff.
