Lost baby elephant reunited with herd after researcher helps find missing family

This is the heartwarming moment a baby elephant in Kenya was reunited with its family after researchers located the missing herd. The two-month-old calf got separated from the herd while crossing the Ewaso Nyiro river in the south of the country. Tourists saw him alone and raised the alarm, Save the Elephants said. The young elephant was caught and transported to where his family were grazing in Buffalo Springs, on the other side of the river, the charity added. Save the Elephants said researcher Davido Letitiya, who has known the herd for years, noticed a calf was missing and put two and two together. “A coat of fresh dung helped the family recognise their little one after more than three hours apart... [they] were cautious at first, then welcomed him home. He was even seen nuzzling his mother and playing with the other calves,” they said.
