South Western Railway (SWR) confirmed that services were running slower than usual while a safety inspection was carried out between the station and Vauxhall. Passengers travelling to and from London Waterloo and destinations including Guildford, Woking, Chessington South, Dorking, Hampton Court, Shepperton, and Strawberry Hill have been warned of delays. The incident comes as SWR also issued a general alert, stating that services across its entire network "may be revised" throughout Tuesday due to high temperatures. The operator did not confirm if the smoke incident was linked to the hot weather.A number of afternoon and early evening services have been cancelled, affecting journeys between London Waterloo and Weymouth (via Winchester, Southampton, and Bournemouth), and between London Waterloo and Aldershot (via Woking and Guildford). Additionally, some services connecting Exeter St Davids, Salisbury, and London Waterloo will now terminate at Basingstoke.Separately, National Rail Enquiries reported disruptions to Elizabeth line services between London Liverpool Street and Stratford on Tuesday afternoon.
