Iran’s national soccer team will sleep in Mexico and travel to the United States on the days of its three World Cup matches after Washington declined to host the squad for the tournament, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday.

The president of the governing body of Iranian soccer says the nation’s World Cup training base has been moved to Mexico from the United States after getting approval from FIFA.

Neither FIFA nor the Arizona facility that spent months preparing to host the team has confirmed the switch.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said her country will host Iran’s World Cup soccer team for the upcoming tournament.
