Prime Minister Mark Carney called for an independent investigation into treatment of detained Gaza flotilla activists while speaking with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Monday.

Some of the Canadians who were part of a flotilla attempting to break Israel's naval blockade of Gaza are set to return to Canada this weekend.

Twelve Canadians were among 420 people on boats intercepted by Israel as they attempted to bring a symbolic amount of aid to Gaza in the midst of Israeli restrictions.
