Karnataka: 10 of family drown while collecting freshwater shells

Ten members of a family drowned and one remains missing after a group of 14 people collecting freshwater shells was swept away by sudden river surge at the Palli Hallu Venkchapur river in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district; three survivors are hospitalized at Manipal Hospital. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced ₹5 lakh per victim's family, while Prime Minister Modi pledged ₹2 lakh each from the National Relief Fund and ₹50,000 for the injured.
