The Kyle Busch family released a statement May 23 revealing what killed the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, two days after his sudden death.

Kyle Busch's family earlier Thursday announced he had been hospitalized with a "severe illness."

Kyle Busch won 234 races across NASCAR’s top three series, including 63 in the Cup series. He won the Cup series championship in 2015 and 2019.

The race car driver was hospitalized earlier in the day due to a "severe" illness, according to a statement from his family.

Kyle Busch died at the age of 41 and tributes poured in to honor the NASCAR legend.
