Facing a crisis after the U.S. expanded sanctions on Cuba, Sherritt International may now be rescued by a former adviser to the president.

Canadian miner Sherritt International Corp. has signed a non-binding agreement with Gillon Capital LLC. Gillon is a family office linked to a former adviser of U.S.

Sherritt suspended direct participation in its joint venture in Cuba earlier this month amid ramped up pressure by the U.S. on the island nation.
