They were accused of inflicting a 'high level of violence' on Pc Zachary Marsden in July 2024 during a fracas that went viral on social media. Both defendants denied the charge at Liverpool Crown Court, stating they acted in lawful self-defence or in defence of the other. The jury was discharged by Judge Neil Flewitt KC after failing to reach verdicts following nearly 20 hours of deliberation. The case has been adjourned until 29 May to allow the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether to pursue a third trial.
