The arrests followed an incident on 17 May where one man allegedly climbed a fence and jumped four metres into the enclosure, while the other filmed him. The accused, dressed in a yellow costume, entered the enclosure which houses about 60 monkeys, including Punch, a macaque who gained viral fame. Zoo staff apprehended the man and handed him over to the police, leading to the arrest of both individuals. Punch, the baby macaque, went viral earlier this year for cuddling an orangutan stuffed toy after being rejected by his mother, though he is now socialising with other monkeys.
