A teenager who fled the scene after fatally hiting a great-grandmother has been jailed. Footage released by Northumbria Police shows Billy Stokoe, then 18, leaving the scene after striking Gloria Stephenson, 86, with his e-bike on a pedestrian crossing in Sunderland in May 2025. Dashcam footage showed he did not slow down or try to avoid Mrs Stephenson, who was walking her daughter’s dog and trying to complete her 10,000 steps a day when she was fatally hit. Additional footage shows Stokoe speaking to police after he handed himself in at a police station. “Is she dead?,” he asks an officer. On Friday (15 May), the 19-year-old was jailed for six years and nine months after he admitted causing death by dangerous driving.
