Westminster village ‘playing game’, says former Labour insider

Sir Keir Starmer’s biographer has criticised Labour’s internal turmoil, saying he is “astonished that a party’s behaving like this” amid growing questions over the leadership. Speaking to The Independent following the state opening of Parliament on Wednesday (13 May), Tom Baldwin said it was “hard to claim those responsible are acting in the national interest.” His comments come amid reports that Health Secretary Wes Streeting is preparing to resign following talks with the prime minister. “One of the reasons why we've got this polarisation and this populism in the country is because people feel politics isn't about them. It’s about the Westminster village. It's about the game being played there.”
